A raging driver allegedly threatened to gun down a group of biking Nocatee teens Tuesday evening, even swinging a golf club at them from the window of his Nissan at one point, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s incident report.
A 911 caller reported that the driver almost ran him down on Crosswater Parkway around 7 p.m. before gunning several red lights and nearly taking out a white van.
At some point during his pursuit of the group, the man stuck a golf club out of his window and began “swinging it at complainant and his friends.”
The confrontation resumed near a local convenience store, where the man “was threatening complainant’s friends at the gas station saying he was going to shoot them,” documents state.
At one point, the suspect lifted up his shirt to show that he was armed, but the teens said they didn’t see a gun.
Another witness also told police that the unidentified man threatened to shoot him as well.
A Facebook witness wrote that the driver was “chasing these two kids on and off the road while waving a golf club at them.”
The poster noted that there were children and families near the mayhem.
Police eventually caught up to the suspect nearby, and he claimed the teens were at fault.
He told deputies that “they were chasing his vehicle when he put the golf club out the window,” papers state.
The boys were “advised not to chase anyone” by a deputy and encouraged to call law enforcement if the man threatened them again, according to the report.
The investigation is ongoing.
