A giant boar enjoyed a carefree morning stroll through a Nocatee neighborhood Friday morning, thrilling onlookers who marveled at its eye-popping girth.
More bear than boar, the swaggering swine sauntered clear across Coastal Oaks, drawing gasps as residents emerged from their homes — while keeping a safe distance.
The animal visited the front lawn of the St. Johns Citizen offices at one point but declined to comment.
Perhaps tiring of the hustle and bustle of residential life, the beast later broke into a brisk jog and headed into a thicket of trees next to a pond.
Locals went hog-wild after video of the boar’s morning walkabout began to circulate.
“He was huge!” one witness wrote on Facebook. “I saw him while I was outside doing yard work, and immediately ran inside.”
Fearing the tranquil streets of Nocatee could suddenly turn into a suburban Pamplona, others sought safe harbor by retreating into their garages and cars as the big guy drew near.
For others, the footage conjured thoughts of breakfast meat.
“Bacon,” one person blurted out online.
Another suggested a Coastal Oaks community pig roast.
Additional video surfaced in the comments section, with one local posting footage of what is believed to be the same pig calmly crossing Crosswater Parkway towards Pine Island Academy.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, feral hogs can be found in all Florida counties, but are more abundant in particular areas.
Some Sunshine State communities have been overrun by marauding pig platoons who delight in tearing up yards in search of food.
