A lawsuit filed by a Georgia woman who claimed she was injured by a falling cocktail shaker at a St. Augustine bar has been voluntarily dismissed, according to court records.
The woman had sued the Casablanca Inn on the Bay, Tini Martini Bar and the building’s owner following a May 2023 incident in which she alleged she was struck in the head by a martini shaker while visiting the Old City.
The complaint, filed last month in St. Johns County court, claimed she was at Tini Martini Bar — located on the ground floor of the Casablanca Inn — when the shaker fell from a second-floor balcony.
According to the lawsuit and statements from the inn, a guest staying at the property had been mixing a drink on the balcony and accidentally knocked the shaker over the ledge.
“Our belief is that [the guest] had balanced the shaker on the balcony ledge and accidentally knocked it over while sitting out on her porch,” a spokesperson for the Casablanca Inn previously told The Citizen.
The woman alleged she suffered significant injuries, including bodily harm, medical expenses, lost income and a diminished ability to enjoy daily life.
She had sought damages in excess of $50,000 and requested a jury trial.
The lawsuit accused the inn of negligence, arguing it failed to implement safeguards to prevent objects from falling from upper-level balconies and allowed guests to prepare drinks in those areas.
However, court filings show that Blake voluntarily dismissed the case last month, bringing the matter to a close.
No reason was provided in the filing.
The Casablanca Inn, Tini Martini Bar and Hewlett Enterprises LP, which owns the building, had been named as defendants in the case.
