Five boaters are safe after their sailboat caught fire on the St. Johns River near the mouth of Julington Creek just after noon on Sunday, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
In a Facebook post, SJFR said firefighters responded to the blaze at approximately 12:15 p.m. Sunday.
When they arrived at the waters connecting Julington Creek to the St. Johns River, they found the sailboat fully engulfed in flames and smoke.
All five occupants were wearing lifejackets and were in the water.
SJFR stated that a fellow boater rescued them and brought them to shore.
A fireboat from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department extinguished the blaze fire.
SJFR confirmed that there were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.
