A family was forced to evacuate their World Golf Village home Monday evening after a fire broke out in the garage and quickly spread, gutting much of the structure, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
The blaze was reported just after 7:00 p.m. on the 100 block of Log Spring Way. Crews from St. Johns County Fire Rescue arrived to find heavy flames coming from the garage with fire extending into the attic.
All occupants safely evacuated the home before firefighters arrived and a search confirmed that no one remained inside, and no injuries were sustained.
Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control before it could spread to nearby homes.
Officials said damage to neighboring properties was minimal, but the affected house sustained extensive damage.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which has not yet been determined.
Preliminary observations confirm the blaze originated in the garage area.
