A former FBI agent and college football player has announced his candidacy for a seat on the St. Johns County Commission.
Martin Pyszczymuka has filed to run for St. Johns County commissioner in District 2 against incumbent Commissioner Sarah Arnold.
In an introductory statement, Pyszczymuka cited his background in federal law enforcement, business ownership, and family life as the foundation for his campaign.

“As a small business owner, I want to see our county thrive and prosper, and as husband and father, I want to ensure that our quality of life is protected,” Pyszczymuka wrote.
In his bio, Pyszczymuka noted that he is a former FBI agent who specialized in white-collar crime and also served as a federal air marshal.
Originally from New Jersey and of Ukrainian descent, he was a defensive lineman at Rutgers University.
He pointed to growth-related issues facing the county, saying that “congested roads and overcrowded schools are just some of the problems we face from too-rapid development of our county.”

A second-generation American, Pyszczymuka holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in business administration, his bio stated. He describes himself as an “America First fiscal conservative.”
In his announcement, Pyszczymuka signaled his alignment with commissioners Ann Taylor and Krista Joseph on the divided board.
“I’ve watched two commissioners keep their campaign promises to vote to slow the growth and hold developers accountable, and I hope to join them on the Board of County Commissioners so that we can get things done that frankly aren’t getting done,” he wrote.
Pyszczymuka said he plans to elaborate on his platform and hear from residents as the campaign proceeds.
