A deck collapse at a home on South Ponte Vedra Beach Boulevard sent eight people to the hospital Sunday afternoon, officials said.
Emergency crews rushed to the chaotic scene around 12:30 p.m. and found that the second-story balcony had collapsed, resulting in multiple injuries.
After determining that no one was trapped in the debris, St. Johns County Fire Rescue transported eight people for hospitalization and declared a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident.
Two people were taken to a local trauma center while six others were transported to local hospitals.
All of the injured are in stable condition, according to SJCFR.
“An Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team evaluated the structure and surrounding area to ensure the scene was safe,” officials said.
The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
