He stole Lego playsets featuring the NASA Discovery Space Shuttle — but ended up at the outer limits of his freedom.
St. Johns County deputies assisted the St. Augustine Police Department in searching for 44-year-old Brian Krajcer on August 18 after store staff called in a shoplifting complaint from a local Target.
Surveillance footage from the location shows Krajcer, wearing sunglasses and hat, pushing a shopping cart down a toy aisle and perusing the merchandise.
He then places several large boxes inside the cart — including at least one Lego NASA Discovery box, which retail for up to $200 each. Krajcer then attempts to leave without paying.
Store staff locked the exits to ground his flight, but Krajcer pried open the doors and scampered into the parking lot while pushing his loot-filled cart.
Surveillance cameras then show him hurriedly placing the items inside a car where getaway driver Keynan Gilbert, 30, was waiting.
The duo sped away from the scene and refused to stop when deputies tried to pull them over.
The chase ended after an officer used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle as Gilbert got out on foot and sprinted across an interstate.
Body cam footage shows SJSO deputies running across several lanes of traffic with cars whizzing by as Gilbert finally hits the ground and is handcuffed.
Krajcer stayed put after the PIT and was also apprehended.
The case expanded far beyond a Lego larceny after police found two firearms, meth, liquid morphine and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, officials said.
Both suspects were checked out at a local hospital before being transported to the St. Johns County Jail.
Gilbert faces a slew of charges, including violation of probation, drug possession, resisting arrest without violence, and fleeing and eluding.
Krajcer was charged with grand theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
