Several bystanders reportedly jumped into the river to assist them. At least one person did not resurface.

The Palatka Police Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are leading the search efforts, with dive teams and a marine unit on site Tuesday morning.

Officials said weather conditions are hampering the operation.

Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice to allow rescue teams to continue their work.
