Creekside High School lacrosse coach Jason Alford, known for his leadership and faith, is facing his toughest opponent yet: prostate cancer.

A dedicated mentor and fixture in the community, the St. Augustine resident is now turning to that same community for support as he pursues a potentially life-saving treatment.

After prayer, research, and multiple medical consultations, Alford has chosen a minimally invasive, targeted procedure that preserves healthy tissue and reduces long-term side effects.

“It offers precision treatment with fewer complications,” the First Coast lacross fixture wrote in a GoFundMe page that’s drawn nearly $10,000 in a matter of days.

“It gives me the best shot at beating this cancer while maintaining strength and dignity,” he said.

However, the cost of the treatment is not covered by insurance. The total — $26,000 — must be paid out-of-pocket in full before the procedure.

It’s a heavy financial burden, but Alford — who played lacrosse at NC State — remains hopeful.

“I believe God has already been preparing the way,” he shared. “Through every step of this journey, my faith in God has sustained me.”

He draws strength from Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

The response has been immediate and heartfelt. Friends, players, parents and church groups have begun spreading the word, donating, and praying.

Alford welcomes any form of support — especially prayer.

“Even if you can’t give, please consider sharing this page with friends, church groups, or anyone who might be able to help,” he said. “I believe that God uses people to bring about His miracles — and you might just be the answer to someone else’s prayer as well.”
