A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the shellshocked victims of a violent gas explosion that tore through a Clay County home on Monday, injuring two adults and two children.

“We were lucky to get out when we did,” the father of the family told News4Jax. “I don’t know what would have happened if we had stayed inside any longer.”

The explosion caused catastrophic damage to the structure, including a collapsed ceiling, shattered windows, and a caved-in front door.

“The house is a complete loss,” the mother explained, her voice breaking. “All our things are gone, and we’re just thankful to be alive.”

She believes the explosion occurred due to a gas leak from her washer and dryer.

Neighbors and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene, offering immediate help. “I heard the blast from my house and rushed over to help,” said one neighbor, visibly shaken. “It was like something out of a movie, but we all just came together to make sure they were okay.”

Firefighters and medical teams were on the scene within minutes, tending to the injured and transporting them to the hospital.

The explosion left the family’s home uninhabitable, but their lives were spared. “The shock hasn’t worn off yet,” the father said. “We can’t believe something like this happened to us.”

In response to the tragedy, the Oakleaf Plantation community rallied around the family, offering both emotional and financial support.

A GoFundMe campaign was quickly set up to help with medical bills, temporary housing and eventually rebuilding their home. “The outpouring of support has been incredible,” the family shared in a statement. “We’re overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone who has helped us.”

As of Thursday, the campaign has raised more than $2,400 from 42 donors, and donations continue to come in. “It’s going to take time to rebuild, but we’re taking it one day at a time,” the father said, his tone filled with gratitude. “Every little bit helps.”

Despite the devastation, the family remains hopeful, drawing strength from the community’s support. “We may have lost our home, but we haven’t lost each other or the support of this amazing community,” the mother said. “We’ll get through this together.”
