The City of St. Augustine has selected Sgt. Jon Marston to serve as the next chief of police, City Manager David Birchim announced Wednesday.
Marston will take over leadership of the St. Augustine Police Department following the retirement of Chief Jennifer Michaux on Jan. 13.
Birchim said Marston emerged as the top candidate after an interview process, citing his emphasis on accountability and community policing.

“Sergeant Marston demonstrated a strong commitment to professional excellence and the importance of accountability,” Birchim said in a release. “We are confident he will provide effective leadership and continue to strengthen a well-trained, community-focused police department.”
Marston began his law enforcement career in 2008 and has held various leadership and operational roles within the Old City department. He has served as a sergeant in patrol, investigations and training, and previously led the department’s Special Response Team.
He has also participated in officer training, serving as an instructor in defensive tactics, firearms and emergency vehicle operation.
As a Field Training Officer, Marston has also mentored and guided new officers.
Michaux said Marston is well prepared to lead the department into the future.
“Jon exemplifies the leadership, vision and commitment to community safety that our residents expect,” Michaux said. “I am confident he will lead the department with integrity and accountability.”
Marston holds a bachelor’s degree in homeland security from Vincennes University and is a graduate of the Florida Leadership Academy.
