A St. Augustine woman was arrested last week following a dispute with her brother during the reading of their late mother’s will, according to the St. Augustine Police Department.
The 68-year-old from Middleburg faces misdemeanor battery and felony charges for illegally recording a private conversation, officials said.
The incident occurred at the Matanzas Law Firm on Malaga Street at around 11:30 a.m. on April 1.
Deputies were called after the argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to the arrest report, the woman began taking photographs and video during the will reading.
She claimed the documentation was needed to keep up with her mother’s jewelry distribution.
The report states she had permission from the attorney to take some photographs, but continued recording for approximately 15 minutes. Her brother said he did not consent to the extended footage.
During the disagreement, the brother said she approached him aggressively and pushed him in the shoulder. No injuries were reported.
She told deputies the argument had been escalating before the will reading and that she recorded to avoid missing details.
Authorities said the charges include battery and interception of oral communication.
She was booked into the St. Johns County.
Court proceedings are pending.
