Ace Hardware is considering a new location across the street from Ponte Vedra High School near Nocatee, according to a report.

The chain has inquired about JEA services for a 24,000-square-foot store — and a 10,000-square-foot garden center — across from the campus at 460 Davis Park Road, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

The outlet noted that the Ace’s JEA request does not indicate that a lease has been signed, but suggests a preliminary interest in the parcel.

As proposed, the hardware store would sit opposite the highly regarded St. Johns County school’s tennis courts.

The Ace would also be situated near Davis Park, a popular recreational facility with roughly a dozen playing fields.

The land for the proposed development is owned by the Davis family, the outlet reported.

If erected, the store would be Ace’s eighth outpost in St. Johns County.

The nationally recognized brand launched in Chicago in 1924 after a consortium of local hardware store owners joined forces.

The company was named after the ace fighter pilots of World War I.

  1. Lordy stop building here and go somewhere else to build…it’s to crowded now

  2. This is an extremely bad idea!
The increased traffic puts the school kids at risk.
And all to service 20 mile.

  3. Ace Hardware is great. However, the proposed location is not a good place for any retail operation, especially one of the proposed size. Just plain dumb.

  4. Isn’t that area part of the Nocatee Preserve?? Bad idea to have large delivery trucks and semi’s on the road of a high school.

  5. Not sure why anyone believes this secluded spot is a viable location for retail. School traffic backups in the morning and afternoon typically reach the main roads. Not sure patrons would be able to get in or out for over an hour in the morning or afternoon, just stuck in place. This also increases the risk to students from unknown persons near campus during and after school hours.

  6. Are any N.I.M.B.Y. posters aware of minimal destination traffic to Ace Hardware on weekdays?

  7. How is this even zoned commercial? It would increase traffic there and be a problem for the school. The request should be denied.
