Steam curls from bowls at Lotus Noodle Bar in St. Augustine, carrying the savory scent of noodles that fills the sleek space night after night.
In the kitchen, Chef Barry Honan is a maestro without sticks, guiding each dish to the counter with precision and flair.
Now, that commitment to craft has earned national recognition.

Honan, chef and owner of Lotus Noodle Bar, has been named a semifinalist for Best Chef: South by the James Beard Foundation, one of the country’s most august culinary honors.
“I am still trying to find the words, and honestly, I’m in complete shock,” Honan wrote on Facebook.
Since opening, Lotus Bar has built a devoted following for its noodle-driven menu, bold flavors, and disciplined execution. The restaurant is also known for the collaborative spirit that guides its kitchen.

“To be included alongside such talented individuals is an honor I never expected,” Honan said. “This recognition belongs just as much to my incredible team and my family, who have stood by me every step of the way. Thank you for believing in me.”
The James Beard Awards, chosen by a nationwide panel of chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, and food experts, honor excellence and leadership in the culinary world.
Semifinalists are the first step toward final nominations, with winners revealed at the 2026 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony.
For Honan, the nod marks a defining career milestone.
For St. Augustine, it brings national attention to a city quietly emerging as a Southern culinary destination.
