As local shoppers watched several longtime Winn-Dixie locations become Aldi stores, and with Publix reigning supreme in every corner of the county, many are wondering: what’s next for Winn-Dixie?
Southeastern Grocers provided some answers Tuesday, revealing that it will rebrand in early 2026 as The Winn-Dixie Company, focusing on its Sunshine State roots and investing in modernizing stores, adding amenities, and expanding its presence in North Florida.
While the company doesn’t name specific locations that will be remodeled, representatives said “dozens of store upgrades” are underway across the state, including the return of Lip Lickin’ Chicken and expanded liquor store offerings.
Winn-Dixie is also embracing more digital conveniences, like third-party delivery and in-store return kiosks—aiming to keep pace with modern shopping’ expectations.

The grocer will also be absorbing three Hitchcock’s Markets—in Alachua, Keystone Heights, and Williston—as part of its strategy to retrench in North Florida.
Meanwhile, SEG is pulling back from markets outside the state, closing or selling stores in Alabama, Mississippi, and other parts of Georgia—tightening its focus on the Sunshine State and Southern Georgia.
“Following these transactions, The Winn-Dixie Company will move forward with a sharpened focus on its home state and neighboring southern Georgia, operating approximately 130 conventional grocery stores and 140 freestanding and grocery-adjacent liquor stores,” the company said.
Anthony Hucker will remain as Chairman and CEO.
