A sustained lack of rain and rocketing temperatures are leaving swathes of St. Johns County high and dry.

An increasing number of plants and lawns are currently on life support, as residents using reclaimed water are seeing minimal water pressure and gurgling sprinklers.

“Due to hot summer conditions, you may notice lower than normal water pressure in your irrigation system,” JEA told homeowners in a voicemail message. “We understand this can be frustrating and are actively working to address the issue. Our teams are aware of the low reclaimed water pressures.”

The issue has been most severe in northern St. Johns County, areas in Nocatee including Shearwater, and portions of southern portions of Duval County.

Some complainants are having to hand water their lawns from spigots or adjusting their irrigation schedules to match up with water availability.

JEA has said that they are assessing ways to improve services across the growing county, but that residents shou.d expect the issue to recur during droughts.
