It didn’t make the cut.
A proposed golf amusement center near Palencia saw its plans land in the rough Thursday when the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency recommended denyied two plans needed to tee up the complex.
By a 5โ2 vote, the agency advised against both a rezoning request and a special use permit that would allow alcohol service at the site.

The proposed development would be positioned on 2.78 acres of a 4.5-acre property along U.S. 1 North near Palencia.
The 32,000-square-foot golf complex would include a two-story, 10,000-square-foot building paired with a 22,000-square-foot outdoor putting course. Plans call for food trucks, arcade games, a full bar, and parking.
Board members said the projectโs scorecard showed too many hazards.
Concerns ranged from traffic congestion and noise to environmental impacts, with wetlands taking center green.
Nearly 68% of the site is classified as wetlands, and board members Judy Spiegel and Richard Hilsenbeck said the design appeared to impact almost all of them.
One public speaker spoke against the plan, citing the project’s closeness to residential areas and other concerns.
The PZA’s decision is not binding, and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will make a final call on the proposal.
