It’s a stiff challenge.
The owners of the wildly popular V Pizza mini-chain sent shockwaves across the First Coast last week after announcing a plan to tweak their pie recipe to address bubbling soggy slice concerns.
“By almost all accounts, we have been very successful,” they wrote in a candid Facebook confessional. “Unfortunately there is just one comment that has been regular and reoccurring for the last 11 years.”
Flaccid folds and collapsed crusts.
“Their cocktails are amazing but the pizza is always soggy,” the post said in summarizing customer feedback. “Those are the best wings I have ever had but the pizza is just OK.”
So rather than rest on their considerable laurels, the brand took action.
Ownership selected a single location and conducted a saucy survey. They asked patrons if they prefer the classic, less firm version of their Napoletana recipe or a newly revamped rigidity.
“Low and behold, over a 2 week period of asking this question and over 1,400 orders….9 out of 10 people asked for the firmer version,” the post said.
While taken aback by the leavened landslide, V said #Crustgate served as an inspiration.
“I see this as a huge positive though! It’s a testament to the customer service, the other food offerings and the amazing cocktails that have gotten us to where we are today,” the post asserted. “What’s the potential if we offer a firmer crust that so many people really prefer????”
That burning question will be answered in the coming months as V Pizza rolls out a less pliable pie.
While they acknowledged that the change could chagrin a hardcore faction of V traditionalists, owners asked their loyal fanbase for one favor.
All we are saying, is give pies a chance.
