He made himself at home — and then some.
Police arrested a Jacksonville man this week for using an unoccupied Ancient City rental property as his personal spa.
St. Augustine Police responded to a burglary call Monday evening after a witness reported seeing a man walking through a backyard on on a street in the heart of the Old City’s historic district.
When officers arrived in the area, neighbors directed them to the adjacent property, where they said the same individual had entered the backyard.
Officers located Gregory Samuels, 47, au naturel on the back porch, comfortably lying on a pile of pillows as a washer and dryer whirred nearby with his clothes inside.
He had passed through multiple locked gates and fences to access the porch, which was also enclosed, the report stated.
Samuels admitted to officers that he had been coming to the property to sleep and do laundry for about a week.
He also confirmed he did not have permission to be there.
The startled homeowner was contacted and responded to the scene.
He told cops that Samuels was an uninvited guest and did not have permission to use his appliances.
The homeowner told police that he wished to press charges for burglary and theft and requested that Samuels be trespassed from the property.
The unoccupied home is currently on the market for $2,700
Samuels was arrested at the scene without incident and was charged with felony burglary and petiti theft for the utility use.
