ATV passenger dead after Wednesday night crash

A 49-year-old Middleburg man died Wednesday night after being thrown from an ATV in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the ATV was being driven by a 30-year-old Middleburg man heading north on County Road 209 near Decoy Road around 8:15 p.m. when he failed to navigate a curve and lost control.

The vehicle overturned in a wooded area, ejecting the passenger.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the driver sustained minor injuries.

No identities have been released, and the investigation into the crash is continuing.

As of September 20, there have been 16 traffic fatalities in Clay County, according to state data.

Four of those have involved morotcycles.
