His kidney is failing, but not his spirit.
Locals are rallying to support an adorable St. Augustine boy as he awaits a miracle.
Lindsey Dunham’s son, Aidan, is in dire need of a new kidney, according to a GoFundMe post set up by her friend, Amy Hendley.
Aidan, Hendley said, barely survived childbirth after a 35-week emergency induction. He would soon require a new kidney, and his father donated his organ when Aidan was still a toddler.
But that organ is now giving out, and Lindsey’s hands are clasped together once again.
“A few months ago, testing began to show that Aidan’s kidney was beginning to decrease in function, and now it is time to act once again to save his life,” Hendley wrote.
Dunham is awaiting insurance approval and is praying for a donor—either living or deceased—to extend her boy’s life.
“During this time, they will need money for medical expenses, travel, food at the hospital and on the road, and loss of income while Lindsey stays with Aidan from the notice of need until recovery is complete,” Hendley wrote.
The campaign had raised more than $17,000 as of Wednesday.
Dunham wrote about her trials on Instagram, telling friends that Aidan’s struggles has taken a profound toll.
“It feels so helpless when someone you love is going through something so hard,” she wrote. “Please don’t feel obligated, but know this is just a way to love and support our family through the next few months and years.”
For now, Aidan’s labs are steady—a minor miracle in its own right. But Hendley asked that well wishers pray that his status remains stable until the donor arrives.
“I know that the loss of income and taking time off from work is an extra burden no parent should have to deal with when worried about the life of their child,” Dunham wrote. “Help me help her and Aidan by alleviating some of their expenses.”
