ACE Hardware has knocked down rumblings of interest in a new location next to Ponte Vedra High School.
A report last month stated that a franchisee wanted to open a 24,000-square-foot store and a 10,000 square-foot garden center across from the school at 460 Davis Park Road.
The report cited a JEA service request, noting that the correspondence did not indicate that a lease had been signed or plans finalized.
But a spokesperson for Ace said the project — which raised local eyebrows given the parcel’s location — is not happening.
“I want to clarify that Ace Hardware is not opening a store at the location mentioned in recent reports,” the spokesperson told The Citizen in a statement.
The nationally recognized brand launched in Chicago in 1924 after a consortium of local hardware store owners joined forces.
The company — a leading name in the hardware sector — was named after the ace fighter pilots of World War I.
