VERIFIED GOFUNDME

Deeply shaken by the mauling death of a beloved DeLand 8-year-old boy, nearly 1,000 donors raised more than $54,000 for his shattered family in less than one day.

Michael Millett was riding his bike with friends when he stopped to pet the animals Monday when he was set upon.

“He was incredibly smart, funny, caring, loving, and so adventurous,” read a message on a GoFundMe campaign launched by relative Jackie Pasqualle Hart. ‘Michael’s contagious laugh and light will be missed tremendously.”

MIllett’s parents, Tiffani Connell and Michael Millett, told The Citizen this week that they’re unable to comprehend their boy’s sudden passing.

“We have set up this Go Fund Me to help with the funeral expenses, medical expenses and additional expenses with missed time off at work,” Hart’s post read. “Tiffani and Michael have two other children and need time to spend with them during this difficult time.”

Community members responded immediately and in force, raising and surpassing the campaign’s initial $50,000 target in short order.

Friends and strangers alike left heartfelt notes of condolences.

“On behalf of our family to yours, there are no words that can be conveyed to take away this deep and unforgiving pain,” one person wrote. “It could have been any child but it was yours. Your sweet boy is with Jesus now and there’s no more pain. Prayers for you and your children.”
