A female Fruit Cove teen is in critical condition after she was struck by a car Wednesday morning while riding her bike to school, officials said.
The girl was traveling along Race Track Road at South Branch Road at 7 a.m. when she was hit, St. Johns County Fire Rescue spokesman Chris Naff told The Citizen.
The Fruit Cove Middle School student was transported by helicopter and remains hospitalized.
“This is also a good time to remind everyone about staying safe on the way to and from school, whether walking, biking, or driving,” principal Kelly Jacobsen said in a statement. “We appreciate your partnership in ensuring the safety of all our students.”
