The head coach of the Flagler women’s volleyball squad is leaving the St. Augustine school to take a position at The Ohio State University.
In three years at Flagler, Skylar Lopas captured two Peach Belt Conference crowns and secured a pair of NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Appearances, posting an overall record of 43-40.
Lopas also guided 10 players to all-conference spots, one player (Kennedy Muff) to conference setter of the year honors and a trio of All-America to honorable mentions.
“These past seasons have been the most fulfilling of my career, and I am deeply thankful to have shared them with such a remarkable group of individuals,” Lopas said in a statement.
Flagler director of athletics Jud Damon celebrated Lopas’ stint at the school in a statement announcing his departure.
“Coach Lopas did a very good job as our head coach the last three seasons,” Damon said. “Beyond the conference tournament championships and the NCAA tournament appearances, he has made a positive difference in the lives of our student-athletes and our organizational culture. He will be missed and we wish him great success.”
Flagler will launch a search for a new coach immediately.
Ohio State head women’s volleyball coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg addressed the new hire in a statement.
“I’m incredibly excited to welcome Skylar to the Buckeye Volleyball family,” Oldenburg said. “His passion and knowledge of the game stood out instantly in the interview process. Skylar’s experience over the course of his career will have an immediate impact on our program and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with him!”
Before arriving in St. Augustine, Lopas previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Florida from 2019-22, an assistant coach at North Florida from 2016-19 and a volunteer assistant coach at Michigan 2014-16.
Lopas led Warner University to repeat NAIA Final Four appearance as a team captain and graduated from the Lakeland school in 2013.
