Something special is brewing in St. Augustine.

Popular Jacksonville-based coffee chain Southern Grounds & Co. will officially open a hotly anticipated new location inside a meticulously renovated downtown building on Friday.

The roasting will commence inside a century-old 2,820 -square-foot structure at 124 King St. after a lengthy two-year refashioning, owner Mark Janasik told the Florida Times-Union.

The space once hosted the Catholic Daughters Club before changing hands.

“It’s one of the grande dames of St. Augustine architecture,” Janasik told the outlet. “It has a great history and it is on an amazing corner in St. Augustine.”

But you do more than quaff coffee at Southern Grounds, which offers full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus — along with beer and wine.

The St. Augustine restaurant will offer several signature dishes, including shrimp and grits and Verlasso salmon.

The company’s newest and most storied outpost will join other Southern Grounds locations in Neptune Beach, San Marco, Avondale and a pair of locations inside the Jacksonville International Airport.

The company’s expansion is percolating rapidly, with other planned locations at the Mayo Clinic, in Jacksonville Beach and the River City’s Brooklyn neighborhood.

The Old City location will have 80 seats, along with a patio and fireplace.

“We’ve always believed Southern Grounds was reimagining how we nurture vibrant communities and, man, you can’t find a better place than that,” he told the Times-Union of the site.

The restaurant will be open from from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
