Philanthropist Duane Ottenstroer, the former Chairman of the Florida Prepaid Program and successful venture capitalist, is selling his 12,500 square foot riverfront mansion in St. Johns, according to county records.

Set on a massive 15-acre lot, the 7-bed , 8.5-bathroom residence in Fruit Cover will change hands at a no reserve auction in March, according to listing broker Anita Vining of Berkshire Hathaway.

Calling it “one of Jacksonville’s most iconic riverfront estates,” Vining wrote that the parcel boasts 600 feet of river frontage, a deep water dock and meticulously landscaped grounds.

Built in 1994, the home was designed by the late architect Barry Fox of New Orleans, who drew acclaim for his many historic restoration projects in his hometown.

“The architecture reflects gracious charm and classical proportions reminiscent of bygone eras, offering a setting ideal for both intimate gatherings and grand-scale entertaining,” Vining wrote of the St. Johns jewel.

A prolific donor to educational institutions and programs, Ottenstroer led Florida’s popular college funding program from 2009 to 2016.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, he sponsors several scholarships and fellowships along with his wife, Sue, including a Bolles School initiative that allows exceptional teachers to conduct research projects abroad.

Ottenstroer is also a trustee emeritus at Flagler College.

  1. Fruit Cove is not in Jacksonville, no matter how much Berkshire Hathaway wants it to be. Fruit Cove, not Fruit Cover, is in St. Johns County.

  2. This is an estate that us less fortunate can only dream of. I pray someone deserving gets it and it’s loved ❤️ and enjoyed
