The NAO Trinidad, a replica of an historic Spanish ship that serves as a floating maritime museum, drifted into the Bridge of Lions Monday morning as it waiting for the drawbridge to open, according to St. Augustine officials.
The city’s Municipal Marina said the ship “lost propulsion” around 8 am and began floating towards the span.
Video posted to social media shows the Trinidad drifting sideways directly towards the bridge.
The Spanish-built replica of a 16th-Century vessel was removed towed to barge pilings north of the bridge without sustaining damage.
The Bridge of Lions was left intact as well, officials said.
The Trinidad — a remake of the ship Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan captained during the first circumnavigation of the world — calls St. Augustine home when in the US.
“At this time we do not have an arrival date set to open up tours at the St Augustine Municipal Marina,” the agency said.
