The casual burrito spot model that began in California and swept much of the country has yet to take root in St. Johns County
But the North Carolina-based Dank Burrito chain is looking to change local tastes with a new location at the Shoppes of Valley Ridge, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record.
The outlet reported that the brand has sought permits for a 2,450 square-foot eatery, its first foray into Florida and sixth overall.
Founder Clarke Merrell worked in his father’s restaurant as a youth before hatching Dank Burrito as a popular North Carolina food truck in 2014.
The concept thrived, and he opened his first sit down venue the following year in Morehead.
According to its website, Dank offers a diverse array of burrito varieties that expand well beyond the traditional carne asada and grilled chicken staples.
These include jerk chicken, honey truffle Buffalo shrimp, pork belly, and Teriyaki chicken.
Vegetarian options are also available, along with tacos, salads, bowls, and kids options.
“Classic but never basic, irreverent, never casual, Dank Burrito is the irresistible favorite you never saw coming,” the brand declares.
