The St. Johns School District maintained an A rating from Niche.com in its latest report — but slipped one spot in state rankings despite having the top math and English proficiency rates in all of Florida.
St. Johns dipped from #2 to #3 in NIche’s best overall Florida School District list, falling behind new #1 Seminole County and #2 Sarasota County.
Clay and Collier County School Districts rounded out the top five.
Notably, St. Johns County had higher math and English proficiency rates than both Seminole and Sarasota — by a wide margin, according to a Citizen analysis of Niche’s data.
A total of 76% of St. Johns students were proficient in Math and 72% in reading.
Seminole has 60% percent proficiency rates in both categories, while Sarasota had a 64% proficiency rate in math and 62% in reading.
St. Johns County schools drew A marks in the key Academics and College Prep categories, along with an A- in Clubs and Activities.
The district was given a B- for Administration, a B for Teachers, a B- for Facilities, a B- for Food and a B for Diversity.
Clay made the biggest jump from last year, rising from #6 to #4, directly behind St. Johns.
All five schools earned A ratings overall from the popular site, which states that it uses public data sets and user reviews in determining its rankings.
St. Johns County schools added another 1,943 students this year for a grand total of 47,495, according to the district.
The amounts to a 4.27% increase from the prior academic year.
