A record-breaking listing for a Ponte Vedra Boulevard mansion tied to famed cancer philanthropists has hit the market for $25.5 million.
If sold at that price, the 10-bedroom, 9,870-square-foot oceanfront residence would break the prior sales record of $22 million paid for 349 Ponte Vedra Boulevard by former T-Mobil CEO John Legere in January.
The eye-popping listing for 1185 Ponte Vedra Boulevard is owned by the Sontag Foundation, according to public listings.
Top local broker Michelle Floyd of ONE Sotheby’s International is representing the sellers.
The non-profit was launched by Susan Sontag, who passed away in 2022, and her entrepreneur husband, Rick Sontag.
The Harvard Business School graduate founded successful aerospace firm Unison Industries and moved the company to Jacksonville from Illinois. By the early 90s, Unison had 500 employees and was thriving.
But In 1994, Susan Sontag, who first met her husband in the ninth grade, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Beating the odds, she survived the dire diagnosis until her recent passing.
Her husband sold Unison in 2002, and used a significant portion of the proceeds to launch a non-profit dedicated to fighting the disease.
“If I ever get the opportunity to do something about this horrible disease and its effect on patients and caregivers, I’m going to do it,” Rick vowed, according to a statement on the foundation’s website.
The organization eventually grew to be one of the largest brain tumor research funders in the world and continues its work today.
The nearly 3-acre property was previously listed to include two adjacent lots owned by the foundation, before being updated to only feature the home.
