It took a lot of Guinness to deal with this one.

Plagued by poor line play and a sputtering offense, the 10th ranked Florida State Seminoles dropped their season opener in Ireland Saturday by a score of 24-21 on a last second field goal.

Favored by 10.5 points ahead of the Dublin matchup, the loss came as a shock to Seminole Nation — and dimmed hopes for a spot in the newly expanded 12-team playoff.

Ratcheting up his feud with the the Tomahawkers, ESPN pundit Kirk Herbstreit — who opposed FSU’s inclusion in last year’s playoff — highlighted the loss on X.

“Man, tough loss for the Noles over in Ireland to a good GT team,” Herbstreit posted after the game. “The great news is with the new 12 team playoff, there’s still plenty of opportunities to climb back into the bracket. Regroup and keep battlin!”

Fans were split on whether Herbstreit was twisting the knife or extending an olive branch after drawing the wrath of FSU’s rabid legion of fans last year.

“TROLL JOB OF THE DECADE” wrote one poster.

FSU fans who made the trip to the Emerald Isle booed Herbstreit on ESPN’s College Game Day set prior to Saturday’s game.

The long running college football show is hosted by Ponte Vedra Beach resident Rece Davis.

The Seminoles will attempt to right the ship in the coming weeks with matchups against Boston College, Memphis, and the California Golden Bears.
