A reeling St. Augustine family is asking for prayers and community support after their 22-year-old daughter suffered serious injuries in a Maryland ATV accident.

Brooke Voeks, 22, who had recently moved from the First Coast to begin a new chapter in her young life, was critically injured in a four-wheeling crash.

She’s being treated in an intensive care unit for a severe head injury, a fractured arm and pelvis, internal bleeding, and a shifted bladder, according to the family’s GoFundMe post.

Her parents, who live in St. Augustine, immediately flew to Baltimore to be by her side following the accident. Family friends say Brooke faces a long and difficult recovery.

Brooke’s mother is expected to remain with her during the recovery process and will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. At the same time, medical expenses, travel costs and day-to-day bills are rapidly piling up.

Loved ones describe Brooke as a vibrant young woman who brought energy and light to those around her. They say her parents have long been active in their community, offering help to others in need, and are now on the receiving end of that same support.

Friends and family have organized a fundraising effort to help cover costs associated with her care and the family’s time in Maryland. They are encouraging donations of any size and continued prayers for Brooke’s recovery.

“She has always been a beautiful, bright ray of sunshine — and we believe with all our hearts that she’ll shine again with our help,” the fundraiser states.
