An 11-year-old boy remains in stable condition Saturday after he was run over by his family’s own car in a tragic accident at Davis Park, sources told The Citizen.
The collision occurred during the weekend traffic congestion that grips the popular recreational area where soccer, baseball and football games often take place simultaneously.
The boy exited his vehicle, and his family thought he had cleared the area before striking him.
He was initially classified as critical but stable before his condition improved.
The incident took place during a transition period where one set of parents were leaving the park after their kids’ games ended and others were entering.
Witnesses told The Citizen that the boy remained on the ground and was tended to by EMS workers who arrived in ambulances and snarled traffic.
Distraught family members remained with the child at the scene, as emergency workers rushed to stabilize him.
He was eventually airlifted out and taken to a local hospital.
The Citizen will update this story.
